Dorset House is a perfectly located boutique backpackers hostel in a historic 1871 home. It is situated in a lovely quiet garden setting and is right next to leafy Hagley Park.
Built in 1871 as the home for a wealthy timber merchant, Dorset House has a fascinating history and it blends character charm with modern facilities.
There is plenty of light and space, no bunk beds, and every bed is fully made.
Dorset House offers FREE unlimited WiFi access throughout the hostel.
You will find everything you need for a comfortable stay, including the assistance of our helpful staff. Minx the cat will be asleep on her chair too.

Dorset House is ideally located on the northern end of the central city:
30 seconds walk to leafy, green Hagley Park
8 minutes walk along the park to the Canterbury Museum & Botanic Gardens
20 minutes walk to the RE:start mall shopping precinct for souvenirs and gifts
Enjoy quirky shops on Victoria St. Vic's Cafe is famous (have an iced chocolate) and we can see it from our front door
Enjoy evening dining in the Merivale shopping and restaurant area (supermarket, restaurants, bars, pubs) 20 minutes walk.
It's easy to get around:
The Airport bus is a 2 minute walk away.
Public buses will take you all over the city and you can catch them within a 5 minute walk.
Intercity bus depot is a short bus ride away, with buses leaving from around the corner (or alternatively about a 25 minute walk) for your national bus connections.
Reception is open daily from 9am to 5pm. Please contact us if you are arriving late to receive the door code (also in your confirmation email).

- Bed in 5 Bed Mixed Dorm (single beds, no bunks!)
- A share room has a maximum of four or five beds and none of these rooms have bunk beds. Each bed is fitted with sheets and a duvet and has a bedside table with lamp. Heating. All share rooms are located within 10 metres of a bathroom. Please 'add another room' if you wish to book a bed for another person.

- Bed in 8 Bed Mixed Bunk Room
- Book per bed for the number of beds required. This room has 8 bunk beds. Each bed has a fitted sheet and a duvet and flat sheet at the bottom of the bed. Each bed has a bedside table with lamp. Heating provided. This room is located within 5 metres of a bathroom. Please 'add another room' if you wish to book a bed for another person.
