Chy-an-Dowr
Chy-an-Dowr (House by the Water) is located halfway between Dunedin City and the Royal Albatross, Blue Penguin and Yellow-eyed Penguin Colonies.
Situated in Broad Bay on the scenic Otago Peninsula, directly across the road from a small beach.
Chy-an-Dowr has two accommodation options:
The Canterbury Suite: a guest suite upstairs at Chy-an-Dowr with extensive harbour views or
Rosemary Retreat: a private self catering apartment, located in a garden setting at the rear of Chy-an-Dowr.
The Canterbury suite is a character guest suite upstairs at Chy-an-Dowr and consists of two bedrooms, a sitting room. two bathrooms and a sunroom and can accommodate up to five guests, single party bookings only.
The Canterbury room has a Queen-size bed, electric heaters, a TV and tea/coffee making facilities and an en-suite bathroom accessible from the bedroom with a shower, washbasin and toilet.
The Peninsula room has a king-size bed, a TV and an inter-connecting room. This room can either be opened up or closed by double doors and has a single bed, small fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. The Peninsula room has a private bathroom just across the hallway with a bath, separate shower, washbasin and toilet.
The beds have electric blankets, cotton sheets and duvets. Bathrobes, toiletries and a hairdryer are provided.
All rooms have electric heaters and a TV and free WiFi.
The sitting room is at the front of the house and has a seating area, a table and chairs, TV with DVD player, a fridge, microwave and tea/coffee making facilities.
The Sunroom is a lovely little room at the front of the house with extensive harbour views, sit in the sun and relax, read or just enjoy the views.
There is a steep staircase to the Canterbury suite, so not suitable for guests with mobility issues..
Rosemary Retreat is a self contained apartment on the garden side of Chy-an-Dowr.
Rosemary Retreat is your own private retreat with an outdoor patio in a garden setting. You have off street parking in the garden and access through the garden to Rosemary Retreat.
The apartment consists of a lounge/dining room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.
The lounge/dining room has a table and chairs, sofa bed, TV, DVD player, CD player/radio, books and magazines with French doors opening to a garden patio behind the rosemary hedge. The kitchen has a single induction cooker, a benchtop oven, microwave, toaster, fridge/freezer etc.
The apartment is self catering.
The bedroom has a king-size bed, electric blanket, cotton sheets, duvets/blanket. There is a separate bathroom with a shower over a bath, vanity and toilet. Bathrobes, toiletries and a hairdryer are provided.
Note: There is an internal step from the lounge to the bedroom and bathroom.
Sleeps max. 3, King-size bed in the bedroom and fold out sofa bed in the lounge.
The Otago Peninsula is well known for the Royal Albatross Colony, Yellow-eyed Penguins, Little Blue Penguins, seals and sealions. There are many walkways, secluded beaches and wonderful views. A great area for walking or birdwatching. Larnach Castle and Glenfalloch Gardens are nearby. There are several local cafés and restaurants in Portobello the next village.
